ACCEPTING BIDS
The Board of Education just put out a brand-new brochure concerning the computer problems at the elementary schools. It seems that there is a shortage of space on the current system. They are proposing different means of getting better options for data storage, by accepting bids from various companies. In the long run, this could be a good thing. The students, particularly the intermediate-grade ones, really need to have more byte space on their PCs. While they are being taught proper handwriting, they are spending an inordinate amount of time using their fingers to press buttons and punch keys. In the short run, we have little money in the account as it is. What we could really use around here are some pens and pencils, some blackboard erasers, some floor tile and ceiling tile replacement, some printing paper, and even better food in the school lunchroom. I don’t really think McDonald’s is the answer, never mind that we only have recess once a week now and gym periods only twice a week for the 4th, 5th and 6th grades. But the administrators are waxing poetic right now about the computers. Apparently, they want their office machines and the kids’ computers to be at least as state-of-the-art as what they have in their homes.
