Now that I’ve learned so much about how bad of an idea it is to file for bankruptsy, it’s really starting to get to me how shameless some of these companies are about trying to get people to file with them. I just came across one such site that is basically a law firm disguised as some sort of bankruptcy counseling company. They say on their home page that you can get creditors to stop calling, get out of debt fast, keep your property and keep your wages. It actually made me kind of angry the way they touted this as if bankruptcy is the best possible solution you could ever come up with. They proudly announce these things that they know will get people to pay for their services, but they seemed to leave out all the downsides to bankruptcy. Like, for example, the fact that having a bankruptcy filing on your credit report can and will cause you unforeseen hardships rebuilding your credit or buying any property for years to come. Or the reality that even after filing bankruptcy, there are still debts that you might still be stuck with anyways. I didn’t see any of those statements on their home page.
