BOOMING BUSINESS
We had too much of a good thing. We had too much business. The orders were coming in off the web and from our direct mail pieces faster than any of us could believe. I was getting worried. If we didn't fill the orders quickly we would end up losing any potential new customers. Jimmy suggested using temporary staffing, but I wasn't sold on the idea. We went to lunch and talked it over. There were pros and cons to it. In the end I thought that we better try it. Our attempts to get relatives and friends to help us out were going nowhere. They all promised to come in at night or on the weekends, but when it came down to it, they always had an excuse. I can't blame them, really. They work all day, so why would they want to put strain on their families by coming up here to work? Some had a long commute. Jimmy called around to several temp staffing offices and got some information. The cost wasn't the big factor, as any orders we shipped out would more than cover the additional labor costs. Looks like I'm going to be putting in a lot of overtime!
